Week of November 28 – December 4, 2009

Welcome to this week’s EdTechTalk (ETT) newsletter! We hope everyone in the United States had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. This past week was a busy week at ETT. The K12Online2009 Conference kicked off with Kim Cofino’s keynote entitled, "Going Global: Culture Shock, Convergence, and the Future of Education". Kim presented from Bangkok, Thailand to a packed house of over 125 attendees! Participants viewed Kim’s keynote and posed questions in the chat of Kim to respond from her school, the International School of Bangkok, before her classes began. The recording and chat log will be posted on the K12Online Conference ning and more information about future presentations at http://k12online.ning.com/. Many ETT present and past show hosts as well as community members will have presentations posted the conference Ning. Special thanks go out to the Kim Confino, the K12Online Conference Co-conveners, Sheila Adams for streaming, the k12Online Conference Live Events Committee,

The Week in Review

EdTechWeekly #145

It’s just John and Dave on the show this week, as we leisurely discuss the role of the backchannel in presentations, Wikipedia, and personal response systems. The fast-paced format returns next week when more of the regular crew returns.

Teachers Teaching Teachers #176 Deep-Sea Diving Into Diigo 4.0 with Maggie Tsai – 11.11.09
As we move into the semester, many of us who are using Youth Voices are also using Diigo with our students.
We invited Maggie Tsai back to Teachers Teaching Teachers to talk about how new features in Diigo 4.0 will help us build connections between students through social bookmarking. Come learn with us!

We were also joined by:
Alice Barr, Tech Integrator at Yarmouth High School, Yarmouth Maine, and Seedlings Co-Host, Songhai, Media Literacy/Digital Archiving Instructor (9-12) Hope Charter School, Philadelphia, PA Russ Goerend, Language Arts and Social Studies 6th Grade teacher in Waukee, Iowa.

EdTechTalk is a community of people interested in the use of technology to improve teaching and learning at all levels of education throughout the world. As a Worldbridges community, it embraces the values of collaboration and inclusiveness. The primary activity of the community is the production of a number of live, interactive webcasts. These programs cover a wide range of topics relating to educational technology. Shows are typically streamed live, and listeners can interact with one another and the show hosts through a text chat. Recordings of the shows are released as podcasts. Participation in the community is encouraged for anyone who has an interest in educational technology. Participation may take many forms, from simply listening to shows produced by the community to more actively working to produce and distribute content for the network.
