Welcome to this week’s EdTechTalk (ETT) newsletter! What a fantastic week for the ETT community! ETT turned five years old with a community wide birthday celebration held on Saturday, June 5th. This is a tremendous milestone and is always rewarding to see the efforts of all of the volunteer community members come together for a common vision. Be sure to listen to the recording if you missed the live celebration. The ETT gang shared humorous and touching memories of the past five years with a nostalgic walk down memory lane. This is one celebration where you will want to partake of the ‘fat free’ goodies. Happy birthday ETT and many happy returns on another five years of ETT shows, celebrations and community member events. May you continue to make a difference in the lives of all of the ETT community members!
Do you have the end of the year blues? Not after listening to Seedlings, as we interview Cherrie MacInnes.Cherrie is a 3rd grade teacher who began a journey with her class and visited, by Skype, every state throughout the year. She had no idea how to begin the journey, however, she invented a way for this project to begin, figured out the steps and with the help of her IT department, she has left the breadcrumbs for all of us to follow. Thanks Cherrie.
A huge shout out to Dave Cormier for saving our show when at the last minute our settings did not work. Also Happy Birthday to Edtechtalk, 5 years old on Saturday!
This week Sheila Adams and Lisa Parisi discussed what to look for in a new employee. How do you wind your way through the typical answers to find the perfect candidate for a position?
Bitstrips for Schools, Shahan Panth and Jacob Blackstock. We were also entertained by a couple of Writing Project teachers: Kevin Hodgson from Western Massachusetts and Larry Neuburger from the Ozarks in Missouri.
Dave and John are joined by Alvin Trusty and his 18-year-old daughter Kara Trusty to discuss Facebooks’ newly revamped privacy settings, the expectations of privacy when posting things online, and best practices for managing your online identity. We also talked about how schools approach social networking, and whether they’re adequately preparing students to make intelligent decisions regarding their own online privacy and identities.
Conversations Episode 74 – The Discovery Education Network
Right off the heels of a great DEN Day of Discovery, Sheila, Lisa and Maria talked about the Discovery Education Network. Lee Kolbert and DENnis Grice joined the show.
